TechFire’s three-part briefing series on the General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) continued on 11 May with a session focused on implementation and compliance.
The first briefing in the series introduced the scope and impact of GDPR; the second event looked at embarking on the compliance journey: assessing skills, data audits and assembling the project team to get it done.

Key speaker on the morning was Tom Hulton, corporate compliance manager at An Post and also chairman of the Association of Data Protection Officers. With a strong background in corporate law, risk and audit, he spoke not just about An Post’s own experience with GDPR across its multitude of operations, but also the new responsibilities being placed on the shoulders of data protection professionals throughout Ireland.
Experts from event sponsor Sungard added to the discussion on what GDPR will mean for the data warehouse, business intelligence and analytics environment. The focus was not just on changes in process and architecture but also development and training of people in automating and supporting GDPR compliance.
